I've been wanting to update this blog more often, but sadly, I've been so busy with plans for this Winter and 2015 that I've neglected to write here.
Anyhow, I wanted to point you to this new piece I wrote for LargeUp.com on Garifuna history and music. If you're not familiar with the Garifuna people and culture, now's a good time to get acquainted. The Garifuna are the descendants of mixed African and indigenous Caribbean peoples who originally lived on the island of St. Vincent, but were later forced to resettle along the coast of Honduras, Belize, Guatemala and Nicaragua. They have one of the most unique and complex histories of anyone in the Caribbean, and along with that, a rich culture including their own language and music.
