My feature article -- 6,500 words -- on the L.A.-based label, radio show and collective, Soulection, was published last week on Forbes. I'm very proud of the story and it's the kind of journalism I like, i.e. detailed and thorough work. It tells the inspirational entrepreneurial story of the music startup from its beginnings to the present day, and it was published in the days leading up to Soulection's 5th anniversary. It's long, but hopefully you enjoy it and you become inspired to do what you love, follow your passions and be true to your highest self and purpose.
Live From The Jamrock Cruise: Cham talks about his stage show (New Video)
Last month, I went on the Welcome To Jamrock Reggae Cruise 2015 to Jamaica for LargeUp.com -- basically it's a 6-day floating reggae/dancehall festival organized by Damian Jr. Gong Marley and the Marley family. We documented the whole journey. This video with Cham is the first video I shot and edited for the webisode series. Shouts to the team Martei Korley and Garreth Daley (of GDFilms). Also shouts to Jesse Serwer and DJ Gravy in NY.
Learning the New New at Serato HQ
Feeling lots of gratitude to be able to learn from my peers and exchange knowledge (especiailly when it's all about sharing our love of music with the people!). A very inspiring way to start the new year. Thanks Serato for having us at the NYC headquarters. Shouts to Serato, Jasmine Solano, DJ Recloose, DJ Wonder, Just Dimi, Ms. Nix and Martina McFlyy. I can tell 2016 is going to be a great year.
Happy New Years Eve -- Random Dance Mix for you
So yes. It's New Years Eve. I felt impulsively inspired to record a very random, super random dance mix last night... today most people are using DAWs to create their mixes; I wanted to take it back to doing a one-take live mix like I used to do to cassette tapes... sooo... it's not perfect. Literally one take and done... in 2 and a 1/2 hours. Consider it a little gift for New Years Eve. Maybe play it tonight at your new years house party. We plan to play it at our house party! (Which means I get to dance instead of working! Holler!) Start it between 12 midnight and 12:30am and you should be good until 2:30 or 3 lol. Best wishes into 2016!
REFRESH RADIO SHOWS #11 - #41
Wow. It's been a minute since I posted on this blog. That's mainly due to constantly trying to make each week's The REFRESH a great program to listen to. I am going to try to make this a higher priority this year. 2016. Since that starts tomorrow, I'm taking the time right now to direct you to The REFRESH Radio Shows # 11 - # 41. Over 100 hours of music, special guest DJs every week and of course you get to hear a set from me at the start of each show. I've really tried to keep the sets fresh with different music each week. There have been too many highlights to mention just one, but it was a joy to celebrate Show # 40 on Winter Solstice with special guests Ms. Nix, Jasmine Solano and Martina McFlyy. We went for almost five hours! Remember we're at Meridian 23 on 23rd St in NYC every Monday from 6pm - 9pm. Tell a friend to tell a friend.
